Some tactics to get noticed on LinkedIn

The job market is tough these days and it’s difficult to get noticed. You can either go on recruitment websites like Randstad for sales jobs, mining jobs or anything that you’re interested in. Or one of the most important things you can do is create a LinkedIn profile online. It is one of the most popular job networking sites around. If you have a LinkedIn profile, you can get access to thousands of jobs and reconnect with former colleagues. Here are some ways you can get noticed on LinkedIn.

Emphasize Results In Your Resume

When you put up your resume, make sure to emphasize your results. If you just list the duties you did for each job, your profile will not stand out. In the summary and experience sections of your profile, talk about the accomplishments you made on your jobs. For example, if you increased sales by 25 percent at your last sales job, list that on your profile.

Ask for Endorsements

Don’t be afraid to ask for endorsements. They can add so much credibility to your profile. For example, you can ask one of your former college classmates to endorse you. Also, don’t forget to endorse others. If someone endorses you, it’s only courteous to give him an endorsement.

Post Your Picture

People are much more likely to check out your LinkedIn profile if you post your picture. If there is no photo on your profile page, people probably won’t be interested to look at it. However, don’t post a picture of you partying with your friends. The photo should look more professional. Just ask a friend to take a simple headshot of you.

Build Up Your Connections

Take the time to build up your connections. If you are connected to more people on LinkedIn, a recruiter is much more likely to see your profile. Reach out to former colleagues, bosses and professors on LinkedIn. Also, don’t be afraid to make connections with professionals at every level, even if you don’t know them personally.

Participate In Discussions

It is very helpful to participate in discussions. Start out by searching for groups you can join on LinkedIn. Many of these groups will include message boards and discussion areas. Do not be afraid to reply to questions and comments. If you give articulate responses, recruiters may notice and contact you.

Get Recommended

Ask at least a couple of people to give you recommendations. The more testimonials you have, the more visible your profile becomes. For example, a former co-worker can say how well you worked in a team environment.

Filling out your LinkedIn profile takes time, but it is completely worth it. If you follow these helpful tips, your profile will get noticed. Taking an hour or so to complete your profile could even land you that dream job you have always wanted.
